Cirdan are delighted to have been shortlisted for ‘Best Use of AI In a Sector’ (Healthcare) at the 2021 AI Awards Ireland. Our submission for the awards was based around the results of a KTP project undertaken by one of our AI Engineers, Jonathan Armstrong.

Jonathan helped embed AI into the company, firstly with one AI algorithm running in our X-ray imaging product CoreLite to identify microcalcifications in breast biopsy and then developed an AI algorithm to successfully identify tumour tissue in Whole Slide Colon Polyp images.

Commenting on the successful shortlisting , Jonathan said: “The recognition for our AI application was the result of a challenging KTP project and great collaborative effort from all involved. My supervisors Dr. Paul Miller and Dr. Jesus Martinez-del-Rincon in Queen’s, and Dr. Maurice Loughrey from the Royal Victoria Hospital were guiding lights both in the application and the development of this technology. It was a privilege to work with Cirdan and implement their motto to ‘Improve wellbeing through innovation’ in such a cutting-edge field.  Since the project completion we have continued to grow our AI and  R&D team to continue the work of developing new algorithms and researching novel applications of the technology.”
