Meet Paul Olphert who joined Cirdan as Software Engineer Contractor in 2022 and has since been actively involved on a diverse range of projects within the ULTRA division. His role has since changed to Associate Integration Engineer, and encompasses the exploration of innovative approaches to integrating software systems while ticking all of the interoperability boxes for clients. He is always up to his elbows in learning new technologies and joining forces with both internal and external teams to broaden his expertise. He also recently graduated from Queen’s University with a Master’s in Software Development. Congratulations!

Outside of his work, Paul nurtures his artistic and musical background, indulging in various creative pursuits such as playing the guitar and composing music. Currently, he is undertaking a personal project at home: the creation of digital books aimed at educating young children about music. With a desire to share his passion for music and its benefits, Paul aspires to distribute these digital resources and make a positive impact on young children.

We caught up with Paul to get a deeper insight into the daily life of an Associate Integration Engineer at Cirdan, and how Cirdan forms an integral part of his busy life.

What activities does your job involve on a daily basis?

My job as an Associate Integration Engineer involves exploring and devising ways to combine software systems, meeting clients’ interoperability requirements and ULTRA LIMS. I constantly learn new technologies and collaborate with external and internal teams to expand my knowledge.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

My favourite thing about my job is the challenge it presents. Coming from a customer-driven background, I approach projects with the end customer in mind and delve deep into understanding the “why” behind everything to produce the best results.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, going on outings and occasional getaways. I also have an artistic and musical background, which I indulge in through various creative pursuits. I play guitar (but don’t sing) and write music for fun. I am creating digital books at home that I hope to distribute, that will teach music to young children.

What are you most passionate about?

I am most passionate about making products that are of quality and that aim for long-term success. I believe in delivering the best possible results, even if it takes more time. To quote Steve Jobs, I strive to create “insanely great” products and ensure that nothing less than a minimum awesome product leaves the door. You have to aim high!

Many congratulations to Paul as he continues to push boundaries in technology and inspire young musicians with his creative endeavours!
